My first solo record, obstensibly written by the two characters in its title who occupy the expanded universe of Homestuck, a multimedia web comic by Andrew Hussie. It was created as part of his "fake bands" project to create a series of Gorillaz-esque virtual bands, each with their own respective albums written by contributors to the Homestuck soundtrack. The characters Mobius Trip and Hadron Kaleido were designed by my girlfriend Tavia Morra and are portrayed in costume by myself and her respectively.
This album was recorded and produced by myself in Los Angeles, California with some pre-production work in Austin, Texas. It is released through MS Paint Adventure's independent record label What Pumpkin. Songs are all written by me. Album art is by Tavia Morra and Richard Gung.
There are nine songs, 6 of which have lyrics and 3 of which are instrumentals. The songs are "Forever", "Dawn of Man", "Beta Version", "No Release", "Fly", "Lies with the Sea", "Chain of Prospit", "Pumpkin Tide", and "The Deeper You Go".
My influences for this record are primarily new wave, classic rock, and electronic dance music. The album is tied together by some of the main themes of Homestuck, namely dreams, exploration, origins, romance, secrets, conquest, hypnosis, pumpkins, and betrayal. Some of the song ideas are derived from dreams I've had, while others come from sketches created throughout my work on Homestuck.
A music video for the song "Fly" was directed by Tavia Morra and released in December 2011. Snapshots from the album art photo session can be found here.
